Reasons why I have not written any article

--

My name is Abanobi Chukwuma Godswill and this is my story. I have had more than 9 years of experience in my programming career, I have had my own share of culture, politics, Business, and Investment experience but I have not written a single article on them. I have always wanted to put this down in writing for more than six years, and I have always wanted to be a great writer too but for some reason, no single paragraph until now 9/01/2021.

Reasons why I have not written any article

And these are the reasons I feel I have not written an article since 2012 when I got my first official Software Development job.

  1. Procrastination: This has really become part of me mostly when I get my notification and it says time to write an article, I always say there is next time. And for more than 3924 days there has never been next time that is suitable enough.
  2. Social Media: Social media has been part of me that I can stay on it for hours. Even during working hours I still try to peep and see what is happening there. Even while writing this article I still went through my Twitter timeline. But do they worth it? Well we will see
  3. Busy schedule: Sometimes we are too busy but when some more productive people watch you closely they cannot point at what exactly you are doing while you were busy. One of the things I hope not to do much more in the future is 9–5 jobs. They make you so exhausting that you will look more busy and serious than others while in reality, it might be the opposite.
  4. Public Verification: Nobody knows it all but in my case, I was waiting for people to tell me I can really do it. I wanted my students, friends, colleagues to verify what is not even existing.
  5. Get Rich Quick: This one right here took my mind off entirely on how I want things to work. because I was so eager to make money so I face whatever I hear people say its bringing money at the moment leaving behind whatever I have been building. Only to come back after some time. I even googled How to make money on medium while writing this article. Something that is normal with a young man trying to make ends meet.
  6. Imposter Syndrome: Feeling I am not good enough is one very challenging issue I have. I always feel I google too much to be writing an article. I have spoken on more than three Google Developers Group events but still feel I might not be as good as people think. This tends to happen to many developers.

Why you should always put down your own experience and what you learned from it

  1. Tell your own stories: If you do not tell your stories nobody will do that for you. I witnessed the #Endsars protest happen in Nigeria and politicians are already rewriting the story. So I have decided to tell my own stories.
  2. You might die and nobody will benefit from your knowledge: I have seen intelligent people die. People who I envy their wealth of Knowledge but most of them of African descent died with their knowledge. The reason why African companies do not have a long term plan. So do not die with your knowledge
  3. The best way to learn is by teaching: I knew that when you teach something to someone who doesn’t know it you will understand it better.
  4. People make money from writing: I do not know how exactly but I have read that people make a good sum of money just from writing and maybe a few pictures.

If this alone will motivate you to start writing I will appreciate it if you give me a clap.
